Parramatta Heritage Rides

About

Members enjoy free cycling tours around Parramatta.

Parramatta is the site of Australia's 2nd European settlement, and the traditional home of the Burramattagal tribe of the Darug nation. It has a fascinating history that is worth getting to know, and seeing it by bicycle is the best way to do it!

Parramatta is home to Australia's 3 oldest European buildings (Elizabeth Farm, Old Government House and the Dairy Cottage), the oldest continuously-used church site (St John's), the oldest surviving cemetery (St John's) with the oldest in-situ marked grave (Henry Dodd, superintendent of the Government Farm at Parramatta). And that's just the beginning!

Parramatta Heritage Rides' themed balades take you past these places and explain their history and significance, including Indigenous history. We also connect to French history and explorers of the time.

The rides take 2 - 3 hours and are free. You'll need your own bike and helmet though! Places are limited though, so please book your place via our website. And we'll buy Alliance Francaise members a coffee and cake at the end if you book in. Paul, the Ride Leader, is an avowed Francophile who speaks French and lived in France for most of 2018.
