For this year's edition of the New Caledonia Short Film Festival, the New Caledonia Delegation to Australia and CREIPAC are proud to present five short films by four different New Caledonian directors.

In October this year, the Francophonie Summit will be held in France.

To celebrate this event, we are organising a French song interpretation contest for teenagers of NSW who are learning French.

The award ceremony will take place on September 27th.
There will be 3 award categories: Best Interpretation, Most Original/Creative Adaptation and Best Music Video.

Simon Fieschi: Life after Charlie Hebdo

To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the French satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo, the Alliance Française of Sydney will host a special Philo Bistro featuring Simon Fieschi, former webmaster and community manager of Charlie Hebdo, and a survivor of the tragic events of 7 January 2015. 

Australian South Sea Islander Reception

The Alliance Française de Sydney represented by Dominique Barbeau, was invited to the annual Australian South Sea Islander Reception and Flag Raising event hosted by the City of Sydney. The event commemorated the forced migration of South Sea Islanders to Australia in the 1800s through blackbirding. Many South Sea Islanders were brought to Australia to work in sugar cane farming, seafaring, and other industries. The event featured speeches and performances that highlighted the discrimination and disadvantage experienced by South Sea Islanders throughout Australian history. The City of Sydney Council has formally recognized Australian South Sea Islanders as a unique minority group and has taken steps to address their historical injustices.

The event was hosted by Councillor Emelda Davis, whose grandfather was abducted from the island of Tanna in Vanuatu when he was 12 years old. The singer who performed at the event told the audience about her grandfather who was kidnapped from Lifou in the New Caledonian archipelago. The event was a reminder of the importance of reconciliation and the need to continue working towards a more just and equitable society.

140 ans du Mouvement Alliance Francaise - Fun for Kids and Teens

What an incredible day it was to celebrate 140 years of the Alliance Francaise movement with the children and teenagers! Between games, rows, quizzes and cooking, the children and teenagers had a great time. As a bonus, they were able to expand their French vocabulary while having fun. And to top it all off, the super cake competition was a real success, with each of the creations more delicious than the last. A memorable day to celebrate this wonderful occasion together.

The Art of Translation in the Age of AI

On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, the EUNIC Cluster of Sydney, the Instituto Cervantes of Sydney, the Italian Cultural Institute of Sydney, the Goethe-Institut of Sydney, the Alliance Française of Sydney and the Embassy of Netherlands in Australia organize an interesting debate on the art of literary translation, the craft of translation and why then it can be replaced by AI, and also how translations bridge cultures and disseminate European literary heritage to Anglo-Saxon audiences.

Insights from distinguished panelists Dr.May-Brit Ackerholt, Dr.Chris Andrews and Dr.Marco Sonzogni. The event will include a panel discussion followed by a Q&A session, with drinks served afterwards.
